This blog post is dedicated to hiking and all of the things that you will need to have packed to make the most of your hiking trip.
Before you start to pack your bag ready for your big hike, you need to make sure that you have those all-important basics. Possibly the most important thing is your shoes. Make sure that you invest in good quality hiking shoes and that they fit you perfectly. You should also have some decent socks underneath as these will also help the shoes not to rub and cause blisters.
Plenty to drink
One of the most important things to pack when you are going hiking is plenty of water. This is especially true if you are planning on hiking in the warmer months when you can lose around 1 litre of water through sweat each and every hour that you walk.
A map and compass
Even if you know the area it is a good idea to take a map or guide book with you just in case. It is also advisable to pack a compass with you and learn how to use it too! You never know when it may come in handy.
Keep rain in mind
Whilst it is nice to keep our minds positive when it comes to the weather, the reality is that sometimes the skies will open. Make sure that you take your rain wear with you, even if it is a lightweight rain coat; you will be thankful of the cover should the rain start.
A snack or two
When deciding on which snacks to take with you it is important to pack those that will give you plenty of energy. Fruit, power bars and granola are good power boosters and they are all lightweight and easy to grab and eat.
This one is simple; just make sure that you have something that can start a fire in the case of an emergency. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy, in fact a lighter or some matches will do.
Now you are not going to be able to carry an entire first aid kit in your rucksack but it is a good idea to at least pack those essentials that you may need in an emergency. Plasters, bandages and antiseptic wipes are amongst those must have items.
Should you be lucky then the sun will beat down during your entire hiking adventure. But this does mean that you should make sure you pack protection against those harmful UV Rays.
