CASTLE SIEGE & JOUSTING DISPLAY
It is 1474 and England’s new king Edward IV has secured the throne during the wars of the Roses. The scenario is that a French raiding party has seized the castle. The Earl of Arundel is with the king and the English must take the castle back. Although not based on a real siege, visitors will experience aspects of a 15th-century siege, with fully armored knights fighting, replica cannons firing and a tented encampment.
There are nearly 1,000 years of history at this great castle, situated in magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun in West Sussex and built at the end of the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, Earl of Arundel. Under his will, King Henry I (1068-1135) settled the Castle and lands in dower on his second wife, Adeliza of Louvain. Three years after his death she married William d’Albini II, who built the stone shell keep on the motte. King Henry II (1133-89), who built much of the oldest part of the Stone Castle, in 1155 confirmed William d’Albini II as Earl of Arundel, with the Honour and Castle of Arundel.

Train*: Please note that as the rail network is very unreliable, those details might change depending on the train delays and we may take an earlier or later train. The decision might need to be taken by the leader on the spot to suit the group’s needs. If you do not arrive at the meeting time, we can not guarantee that you will be able to catch up with the group as the leader may not be able to update you about any changes – even if you call or message them, as sometimes the phone network might not be available and often they might be busy taking care of the group. Leader’s priority will always have to be the customers that arrived on time.
You can bring your own picnic to enjoy at one of the many picnic areas in the grounds or buy it in the local cafe.
