How it works
Build a team of 8 of your friends with a variety of skills to take on the challenge of the Maze
Guided by your Maze Master you will travel across the 4 zones: Aztec, Industrial, Futuristic and Medieval. Facing a variety of challenges and games along the way.
In each Zone individual members of your team will take on 2-3 minute long games of either the Physical, Mental, Skill or Mystery category. For each game successfully completed your time will earn a Crystal.
For each Crystal earned your team will get time in the final challenge – The Crystal Dome. In the Dome your team must work together to catch as many gold tickets as possible as the Dome’s fans blow them in the air.
The experience will last between 1.5 and 2 hours.
The Crystal Maze is a British game show produced by Chatsworth Television, devised by Jacques Antoine and shown on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom between 15 February 1990 and 10 August 1995, with the show being revived for a one-off celebrity edition on 21 October 2016, as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer broadcast, while the original run has been repeated on Challenge since 1998. The show was originally intended to be a British remake of the French programme Fort Boyard, also devised by Antoine, but the unavailability of the French show’s set led British producer Malcolm Heyworth to reinvent the show, using themed zones as a means to keep the show visually fresh. The original run consisted of one series per year and five Christmas specials between the six series, with each show allocated into a one hour timeslot with two commercial breaks; Challenge re-runs retained the same length but with an additional commercial break added in. The first four series, including three Christmas specials, were presented by Richard O’Brien, while both the final two series and specials were hosted by Edward Tudor-Pole, who was referred to on the show as “Ed” Tudor-Pole. The one-off, celebrity edition was hosted by Stephen Merchant.
The game show is set within “The Crystal Maze” – a labyrinthconsisting of four different “zones”, set in various periods of time and space, and its centrepiece called “The Crystal Dome”. Each show saw a team of six contestants travel through all four zones, competing in a range of different challenges, each varying in category and length of time, with a “time crystal” won for each challenge successfully completed. Upon reaching the Dome, the final destination, the team competed in one final challenge held within it, in order to win it and claim a major prize. The amount of time the team had for the final challenge was determined by the amount of crystals they had won in the previous challenges, with each crystal giving them five seconds of time for the final challenge.
